Background of the Channel

Our family, back in July 2020, was vacationing in Gulf Shores enjoying the beach, when my son suggested that I should start up a YouTube channel on gardening. You see, organic raised bed gardening is a real passion of mine; one passed down from my father. I kind of said “Yea, okay”, but not really thinking I would be capable of doing something like that. Gardening is something that’s truly enjoyable to me and I love to share my knowledge to help others. I thought really hard about it and finally, did agree. Then set forth to create my channel and what my content would focus on to become a backyard organic raised bed garden YouTuber!

Louisiana Simple Living’s Mission

That is when Louisiana Simple Living’s YouTube channel and the Louisiana Simple Living BLOG were created. The name for the channel was intended to convey what the channel’s focus to be which was gardening, family, food and fun. I published my first BLOG entry on August 8th, 2020 on “Roasted Salsa Verde – From Garden to the Jar. I followed up on my first YouTube video with the same title on September 7, 2020. And, I guess the rest is history.

Note: the tomatillos used for the Salsa Verde came fresh out of my garden.

Louisiana Simple Living’s Focus

My primary focus on the channel has and will continue to be on my backyard organic raised bed garden. That’s my true passion and joy to share with people. Secondary, and very important, is the garden to plate or jar type of content. That’s where we take fresh produce from the garden and cook it or can it.

Other Content

Another type of content I include is some DIY projects whether that be constructing furniture or building holiday decorations.

Family and Fun

The family and fun component comes through our travel content. Erin and I are considering starting a separate travel channel and post upcoming travel videos in that new YouTube channel versus having it as part of the Louisiana Simple Living channel. But, that’s still something we haven’t decided as yet. For example, this video below on Natchez.

Results

I’ve now published 115 videos on my Raised Bed Garden YouTube channel and make all attempts to get a new video published each week. I’m close to 3000 YouTube subscribers as I’m typing this post. I’m now up to 35 posts in this BLOG and just recently decided to come back to put a focus on this content.

Direction of the BLOG

I’m going to shift my posting style up a bit and write about the content creation process and the overall YouTube and Louisiana Simple Living business experience. I think it will be more fun to write and be much more informative to you as a viewer. I will still include the informational gardening, food and travel/adventure posts but at times have a bit more behind-the-scenes angle to it. I’ll cover some of my decisions and thought processes so you the viewer, can gain a better understanding behind the content. This may enable you, if you are considering becoming a YouTuber yourself!
